GAME JAMS

Game Jams have really helped me grow as a designer - working with various people on a range of themes. Some I complete solo to further my technical ability or test out ideas for long-term projects.

There are also examples of various technical tests I have done in preparation for the development of portfolio work.

Cinematics Test

A short cinematic made in Unreal Engine 5 to learn engine camera setups, sequencer, and tracking. I went for a Western-style establishing, reveal and confrontation shot to apply my real-world camera knowledge to a virtual setting.

Monday Is Coming

Ludum Dare Game Jam, Theme: Delay the Inevitable

48 Hours (around 20 hours worked)

Solo

For this Jam I used Unreal Engine 4, Photoshop and Pixaki to create a side-scrolling 2D game from scratch. There was an additional challenge of ‘Make a game without guns or violence’ so this game is about collecting up the weekend fun before Monday comes around.

Technically, I wanted to understand parallax backgrounds and refine my highscore implementation both of which were successful. Submitting the game to the Ludum Dare community was also a great experience, receiving really helpful feedback.

San Fran Slam

Personal Project

2 weeks

Solo

Inspired by my love for Thrasher Magazines ‘King of the Road’, I wanted to make an endless runner where players can hill bomb the streets of San Francisco.

Made with Unreal Engine 4, it’s a procedurally generated runner with random item spawns and high-score saving, I also implemented touch controls so it runs as a PC or mobile game.

Space Swiper

University Game Jam

5 Days

Team of 6, My Roles: Design, Unreal, VFX, Audio.

Space Swiper is a procedural endless runner where the aim is to collect satellites and avoid cows. My team consisted of 2 designers, 2 3D artists and 2 concept artists. We really enjoyed working together and it was a nice start of term warm-up game where we could all explore new areas.
